This was the Royal Prison where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a Deep Pit. He became the founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the first saint and bishop. Noravank is the masterpiece of the famous Armenian architect Momik.

We will head to South and reach Khor Virap monasteey at the border with Turkey. It means Deep Pit because before there was a Royal Prison. According to a legend Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned there for more than 14 years.
From the hill top a fantastic view of the legendary Armenian mount Ararat is opened.
Areni village is the centre of winemaking. The unique sort of the grape Areni is growing in this area. The oldest leather shoe and the winery were discovered in Areni - 1 cave.
The final stop of the tour is Noravank, one of the most beautiful monasteries in Armenia and the masterpiece of the outstanding Armenian architect Momik. Enjoy yourself among the Red Mountains.
