Let me show you my city, ancient and modern, cosmopolitan and provincial, genius and crazy, all in one! I will tell you the story of the fearles emperor Diocletian, who decided to build a palace so huge that it became the city of Split! Together we will walk through these streets and discover the secrets hiding among the stone walls.
In the front of the Brass model of the Diocletian's palace (Obala Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda 23), at the Riva Promenade
In front of the Diocletian's Palace model you will hear the story about the emperor, his Palace and the City.
We will enter the Palace through the Brass Gates and walk through the substructures. Then, we will visit the central passage hall and hear more about this unique area of 7000 square meters.
Visiting the Peristyle square, you will hear all about the Cathedral. It was built as Jupiter's temple and Diocletian later turned it into his mausoleum.
Visiting the Vestibul, the most acoustic hall in the Palace.
Visiting the Golden Gates, inside and outside. You will hear about St Martin's church, the narrowest church in the Palace.
Visiting the medieval part of Split, the People's square/Pjaca.
This is one of the locals' favourite spots to have a coffee. If you wish, we can take a break and have one too!
Visiting the Fruit square, where you will meet Marko Marulić, the father of croatian literature.
Visiting the Riva promenade, the most interesting and specific site in the Mediterranean! 250 meters long and 55 meters wide, it's the main public square and the place for all kinds of social events.
This is also the place where we end our tour.
